Lost Island Detailing — Paint Correction & Ceramic Coatings

Permanently remove swirls, scratches, and oxidation

Paint Correction

Most paint does not need to be replaced — it needs to be refinished. Swirl marks, wash marks, etching, and holograms live in the top few microns of your clear coat. Paint correction levels that layer under controlled conditions, removing the defect instead of hiding it behind glaze or filler that disappears at the first wash.

Typical time in studio: 1–3 days depending on condition and paint hardness

What's Included

Every appointment covers this.

  • Paint thickness readings taken across every panel before any machine touches the vehicle
  • Full decontamination: pH-neutral foam, iron fallout dissolution, and mechanical clay
  • Taped-off trim, badges, and sensitive edges
  • Compounding stage to remove the defect layer
  • Refining polish stage to restore optical clarity and depth
  • Inspection under swirl-finder, LED, and natural light at multiple angles
  • Panel wipe with a dedicated solvent so results are verified, not masked
  • Protection applied to lock in the finish

How It's Done

The process, stage by stage.

Knowing what you are paying for is part of the service. Here is exactly what happens to your vehicle and why each stage exists.

  1. 01

    Inspection and paint reading

Before quoting, we measure clear coat depth across the vehicle with an electronic gauge. Panels that have been repainted or previously over-polished are identified and flagged — this is what separates safe correction from irreversible damage.

  2. 02

    Decontamination

Correction on contaminated paint drags embedded particles across the surface. Every vehicle receives a full chemical and mechanical decontamination first, without exception.

  3. 03

    Test section

We establish the least aggressive pad and compound combination that fully corrects a test area. Your paint dictates the process — not a standard package.

  4. 04

    Correction

Panel by panel, sectioned and worked to completion, then wiped and inspected before moving on. Nothing is signed off under shop lighting alone.

  5. 05

    Refinement and protection

A finishing polish restores gloss and removes any haze left by the cutting stage. The corrected finish is then sealed — coating strongly recommended, because unprotected corrected paint begins accumulating new defects immediately.

Questions

About paint correction.

How long will you have my vehicle?

Maintenance detailing is same-day. Paint enhancement is typically one day. Two-stage correction runs one to three days. A full protection package with coating is three to six days, because coatings need uninterrupted cure time before the vehicle can go back into the weather. We give you a specific timeline at booking and tell you immediately if anything changes.

Why does paint correction cost more than a detail?

Because it is a fundamentally different service. Detailing cleans the surface. Correction refinishes it — measuring clear coat thickness, then removing microns of material under machine polish to level defects permanently. It is slow, skilled, and irreversible if done carelessly, which is why paint depth readings and test sections come before any compound touches your vehicle.

Can you fix scratches I can feel with my fingernail?

Usually not completely. A scratch you can catch a fingernail in has broken through the clear coat, and clear coat cannot be polished back — only removed. We can dramatically improve its appearance by rounding the edges so it catches less light, but honest expectation-setting matters here: full removal requires refinishing the panel, which is body shop work. We will tell you which category yours falls into during inspection.

Do you work on trucks, lifted vehicles, and classics?

Yes. Trucks and lifted vehicles are priced in our largest tier because of surface area and access, not because they are treated differently. Classic and single-stage paint requires a distinctly more careful approach — single-stage finishes have no clear coat to work with and are far less forgiving — so those vehicles are always quoted after an in-person inspection.
